The Venue
"A stranger is a friend as yet unmet" is an old Umbrian proverb, and the philosophy which guides La Preghiera.
La Preghiera is a 12th-century monastery in Umbria, lovingly converted by Liliana and John Tunstill into a luxury country guest house
of the highest standard.
With more than 800 years of history, La Preghiera was once a monastic complex belonging to the Mont'Ulivetani di Gubbio Friars,
dating back to the late 1100's. Restored and converted to a luxury country house estate by owners Liliana Richardson de Tunstill
and her husband John, the main house, adjacent cottage and private chapel nestle in several acres of landscaped gardens with views
over beautiful countryside and woodlands.
La Preghiera offers a peaceful and tranquil respite from the cares of everyday life, a haven of beauty in the midst of a minor
architectural masterpiece.

Rooms
Ten double or twin bedrooms are furnished and decorated to a very high standard; the beds are fitted with luxurious silk and cotton blend
sheets, en-suite marble clad bathrooms, all with matching white waffle towels, guest robes and slippers.

Food
Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room. Lunches can be provided on request.
Guests wake up to the aroma of freshly brewed Italian coffee, warm homemade bread, straight from the oven, and a
selection of foods to create a nutritious continental breakfast.
There are no "standard" meals at La Preghiera, as each one is an adventure which contains the delicacies of the nearby fields and
woodlands. Fresh fruit and vegetables, locally reared meats, including wild boar, funghi, porcini mushrooms and truffles in their
season. Chestnuts in the autumn, and delicious home made desserts, accompanied by fine Umbrian wines.

Yoga
Organised retreats and classes are held throughout the year. A local yoga can also be provided on request.

Spa Treatments
Guest can visit the nearby wellness centre with thermal spa in Umbria for complete rest and relaxation. With four thermal pools all at
different temperatures, it is the perfect location for a well being holiday in the Umbrian countryside. In-house beauty treatments are
also available at La Preghiera on request.

Other Activities
Guests can choose to relax in the tranquil atmosphere of La Preghiera or swim in the eco-friendly swimming pool. Guests can also choose
one or more of the many activities available including truffle hunting, cookery courses, hiking or mountain biking and horse-riding,
cycling vintage bikes, visit a local cheese farm.

Location
Situated on a quiet road just outside the village of Calzolaro, there are wonderful country walks in all directions. La Preghiera is in the
north of Umbria, on the border with Tuscany, with Umbertide, Cittá di Castello, Montone and the real Green Heart scenes of Italy just minutes
away, whilst the amazing hilltop cities of Perugia, Gubbio, Cortona and many others are within about thirty minutes drive.

Getting There
The closest airport is just half an hour's drive from Perugia airport with frequent Ryanair flights from Stansted. Other airports
include: Ancona (90 minutes drive), Bologna Forli (90 minutes drive), Firenze (2 hours drive), Rome (2 hrs 30 minutes drive), Pisa
(2 hours 30 minutes drive).
It is advisable to hire or rent a car during your stay at La Preghiera, as La Preghiera is situated in the countryside.
